Chinese Orchestra

Established in 1989, the Chinese Orchestra has had a rich and vibrant history since its founding. As one of the main performing arts CCA in the school, the Chinese Orchestra has provided opportunities for numerous students to showcase their talents and abilities in the areas of music and performance. A strong sense of identity and belonging to the CCA is also displayed by alumni members coming back to share their skills and expertise with newer members. We are constantly looking for driven individuals who are interested in bringing their skills to a higher level.

The Chinese Orchestra aims to nurture students into passionate individuals with a life-long passion for music and the arts. Through sectionals, combined practices, various school-wide and external performances, each student is given platforms to hone their musicianship, stage presence and ensemble skills, enabling them to become confident leaders of self and a person of positive influence. By the end of their 4-5 years in the Chinese Orchestra, students are expected to be able to perform as competent soloists, as well as effective members of an orchestra. Through mastery of an instrument, students are also expected to build up resilience and personal discipline, which can be applied and transferred to other aspects of their lives, such as their academic studies. The Chinese Orchestra also serves as a platform for students to learn about traditional chinese instruments and gain knowledge about chinese orchestral music and culture. Students of all ethnic groups are welcomed, regardless of background or experience.
